Stay Tuned for a
2025 Summer Program with ASC
2024:
2023:
To kick off the Summer, Gail Clarke with ASC partnered with Laura Rasgado and HAAS to facilitate a Garden & STEAM-based program for 8 eight-hour days! With grant funding from the REACH program, Mark Kelsic brilliantly led the kids in and around the A-1 STEAM classroom, alternating with Dani Preston in the Garden & beyond!
With Mark, the kids engineered planes, boats, cars, skyscrapers, experimented with physics and chemistry, and explored their creativity largely through the lens of technology!
Dani’s genius got the kids to connect to nature, tend to the garden; harvesting & collaborating on nature crafts when they weren’t preparing delicious and nutritious garden-based snacks.
We had two special guest appearances with Chef Mike generously welcoming a group of kids into the hot kitchen to prepare a special garden scramble and Greg Henkel taking precious time out of retirement to introduce the popular laser printer!
McLean Eames expertly hosted the group’s team building activities; developing strong interpersonal skills, inciting confidence, kindness, collaboration and most of all… FUN!
Jillian Hurne helped to keep things organized; tuning in with the needs of the 36 families who were supported by this program which was offered at NO COST to them!
Over 40 of Puna’s keiki across multiple school settings - ages spanning from 7 all the way to 14 - got out of their car on the first day, reluctant to join. By the end of the two weeks, they were calling out enthusiastically, in unison, for the entire group to get up on stage and sing the karaoke version of ‘You Can Count on Me’ by Bruno Mars! At the final closing circle, when asked if there was a downside to their time at camp, the resounding response was that it was over too soon! One mother already wrote that her youngest cried on the way home and that her teen ‘who is not easily impressed’ said, “I would definitely do it again!”
