Are you looking for a fulfilling part-time job?
Do you enjoy working with children and being a positive influence in your community?
Would you like to become a School Bus Driver but the price of training is out of reach?
You could obtain your Commercial Drivers License training, subsidized by the Arts & Sciences Center!
The Arts & Sciences Center is collaborating with Hawaii CDL Academy to offer training for selected community members to obtain their CDL for bus and passenger vehicles.
With the growing population in Puna, the community desperately needs more bus and passenger drivers. The lack of credentialed drivers has been indicated as a barrier for school bus transportation for HAAS students. The ASC is looking to mitigate this barrier by offering up to 90% subsidies on the training cost to become a CDL driver for local Puna residents.
This training program is funded by the Puna Strong Collaboration Grant via the Hawaii Island Strong Fund.
Applications must be submitted by April 30 2025
Training will be a combination of virtual, in classroom, and hands on driving experience with Hawaii CDL Academy. The schedule of the training will be determined after applicants have been selected.
