All of our programs are funded through grant money and donations. All donations we receive go directly to the participants we serve and the scholarships and activities we provide. The Hawai’i Chrysalis is dedicated to empowering youth and families in Hawai’i to reach their full potential by strengthening and preserving the connections within traditional and nontraditional families, preventing child abuse and healing the effects of trauma.

Foundation in Mauritius

We are also working closely with a foundation in Mauritius, Africa to support the youth there and connect them to their Global community. Some of the funds raised will make programming possible to connect students from HAAS on the Big Island with a cohort of Mauritian students, creating a bridge and connecting the different, but in many ways similar cultures of Mauritius and Hawai’i.

Vibes Up Strong ft. James McWhinney of Big Mountain

James McWhinney a Mexican/Irish descent born in Honduras, raised in San Diego, CA was highly influenced by the Musical Reggae Revolution of Southern California in the 80’s. Born and raised by a Mexican mother an his African American step-father, James was culturally influenced and driven to connecting with others regardless of their differences. His natural ability to sing and energy to perform eventually led to his true calling.

In 1992 James joined his brother Joaquin McWhinney’s band Big Mountain, touring with them to over 30 countries and selling more than 2 million albums and 6 million singles.

After dedicating himself to raising good, strong, and conscious children James felt the need to create a space where brothers and sisters can come together as a family to celebrate the positive energy of the human experience. In 2013 James created Vibes Up Strong. Vibes Up Strong is an experience created by the people, the energy and the love surrounding it. With constant progress in moving forward VUS’s intent of spreading conscious music is a voluntary and positive reality that brings us together to create change today. VUS is a time to connect to your consciousness on a level of oneness. An opportunity to raise a confident and strong loving culture that is absolutely relative to all. Forward ever backward never! - VUS

PeniDean of Natty Vibes

In July of 2014, lead singer and Hawaii’s legendary voice of Natural Vibrations aka “Natty Vibes”, PeniDean Puaauli, left the band who was based in San Diego to return home to Hawaii to focus on his family, do some soul searching, and replant his roots back in his home land.

Missing music, he put together a new band full of fresh faces and a fresh sound. In addition to the new band, Peni reunited with a former renowned voice of Natural Vibrations, Kayton “Sly Mongoose” Macariola. Motivated and refreshed, PeniDean came with the same hit songs that we all know and love such as, “Okana Road”, “Put A Little Love”, “Hot Like Fire”, “Put Some Time”, “Green Harvest” and “One On One”.
